and asking questions until you can do them correctly. **This is your best preparation for quizzes and exams: if you can
correctly complete and understand all of these problems, you will do very well
in this course. **(Note that the problems corresponding to each lecture are
specified on the course schedule.)

As
you know, each Wednesday (beginning 8/28), 1-3 groups of students will
demonstrate solving assigned problems of their choice (one solution per group).

__Clarifications
to textbook answers on hybridization (Problems 61, 63, 77)____:__ Book draws structures with expanded octets and lots of multiple bonds,
which causes them to create some unusual hybrid orbitals (because they have to
overlap unhybridized valence orbitals to make the
double and triple bonds). We will not do this. If you avoid violating the octet
rule, you will get the “usual” hybrid orbitals you’re used to seeing.
