Winthrop Chemistry Students Experience Summer 2002 Internships and Research Fellowships (6/15/02)

These Winthrop University's chemistry students have been awarded summer 2002 internships and research fellowships.  Some of these positions were nationally advertised and competitively selected--often, there were over 10 applications for each opening--Congratulations to these individuals and great job this summer!!! 

Angelique Blackburne, a May 2002 Winthrop chemistry graduate, was one of 7 American undergraduate chemistry students selected to conduct research in France as part of the US-France student exchange program established by the National Science Foundation.

Jacob Bradford, a senior chemistry major, has obtained a position with Bowater Paper.

Jason Brown, a senior chemistry major, has obtained an internship position with Rhodia Chemicals in Rock Hill, SC.

Derek Elgin, a May 2002 Winthrop chemistry graduate, has been awarded a summer research fellowship at the University of South Carolina

Heather Jessee, a junior chemistry major, obtained a position with Atotech Corporation, an international manufacturer of electroplating chemicals headquartered in Rock Hill, to work in the Research Chemistry Division.

Jennifer O'Neal, a junior chemistry major, has obtained a summer research position in the applications lab of Barreco Wax at their facilities in Rock Hill, SC.

Monica Smith, a junior chemistry major has been awarded a ten-week research fellowship at the University of South Carolina to  conduct organic synthesis research under the direction of Dr. T. Christian Grattan, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Winthrop, and Dr. Dan Reger, Professor of Chemistry and Chair, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at USC.

Kimberly Williams, a senior chemistry major, has competitively awarded a summer research fellowship to conduct polymer research at the University of Oregon.
