First of all I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that you are experiencing. I understand that you are still not able to get sound from your computer. The beep you hear initially when the unit boots up is the system speaker and not the audio speakers of your unit. Please try the following steps to resolve your issue: 1. Click “START”. 2. Click on “Shutdown”. 3. Click on Restart and then click [OK]. 4. At the RED COMPAQ logo, tap the [F8] key one time per second until the Windows Startup Menu appears. 5. Choose option [3] Safe Mode. 6. Press [ENTER]. 7. Close down the “Help and Support” window by clicking on the [X] in the top right of the window. 8. When the hourglass leaves the mouse cursor, Right Click the, “My Computer,” Icon 9. Click on “Properties”. 10. In the System Properties window, click on the tab marked Device Manager. 11. Make sure there is a dot in the circle labeled “View device by type”. 12.Click the [+] sign next to the Sound Video and Game controllers category on the list and remove the driver(s) underneath. 13. To remove, click the driver(s) listed to highlight it (them), and then click the remove button on the bottom right. 14. Remove ALL drivers listed. 15. When finished, close window by clicking the [X] in the upper right corner. 16. Click [START] 17. Click Shutdown 18. Click Restart 19. Click [OK]. 20. When unit reboots into windows, it will automatically redetect the device and reinstall the driver for you. If this does not help then it may be conflicting software that has been installed. Please uninstall any software installed on your computer around the time this first started to occur. If this does not help then you will need to un a full factory restore to rule out any software issues. Make sure to backup any information you do not want to lose. 1.First, be sure to backup any important information that you can if possible. 2.Unplug all external devices (i.e. mouse, keyboard, printer etc.) 3.Insert the Emergency Recovery CD into the CD-ROM drive 4.Turn the unit off by holding the power button for 5-10 seconds. 5.Turn the unit back on. 6.It should boot directly to a Quick Restore menu where you will have an option to choose full factory restore. 7.Follow all of the onscreen prompts.
