Weekly Bonus for the week of February 14:

This assignment is due at the start of class on Thursday, February 18. As usual, failure to completely answer the questions will result in no points awarded. And remember: There is no partial credit awarded for Bonus Questions. Ever. Don't bother asking.

Enjoy!

Search the literature and find an example of an allosteric enzyme other than ATCase (we covered that in class). You will need to do the following for bonus credit:

  1. Identify the enzyme (name of the enzyme and organism that expresses it)
  2. Describe the chemical reaction the enzyme catalyzes.
  3. Draw the chemical structure of the reactants and products.
  4. Identify the allosteric regulator(s). Both positive and negative cooperativity are viable possibilities.
  5. Identify a folding motif that the enzyme (or its regulatory subunits) possesses.

This assignment is meant to be Somewhat difficult and will require you to use the internet in ways you have never used it before (meaning the answer won't be found on Wikipedia, the iTunes Store or Facebook). Only part of this exercise is on chemistry, the other part is an exercise in finding and searching through information to extract relevant facts.

Successful completion of this exercise will result in 7 points being awarded to you.
